During the week of June 25th I was scheduled to be in DC to attend Congressional Hearings on Seclusion and Restraint and to meet with Dr. Thomas Frieden, the Director of the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). I’m sure I would have had much to report however both meetings were cancelled in anticipation of the release of the Supreme Court’s decision on the constitutionality of the Affordable Care Act. Indeed all of Washington, DC is eagerly anticipating this decision and making plans for pronouncements at 10:01 AM after the release of the decision.
The Senate Appropriations Committee released their 2013 budget report language last week and virtually everything that FX Advocates asked for on NFXF Advocacy Day was incorporated into the report language for CDC and NIH. That’s great news but we still have a little thing happening on November 2nd and the mandatory budget sequestration to get through before we have a real idea what next year will look like.
Whatever the result there’s one thing we know and that is that we need you at Advocacy Day in 2013. Mark it on your calendar for March 5 and 6, 2013, or put it in your smartphone now!
