My son Alex was diagnosed with Fragile X syndrome at the age of 2 and half years of age and i was scared to death and new nothing about it. I later found out that i am a carrier. At 3 years old he started in school at West Paraire Stars Program in Cholchester, IL funded by the Western Illinois cooperative for children with disabilities. I was grateful to even find that program around where i live. He has been there every since and has a helper with him at all times. He is very special and very observant but doesn’t really speak. Alex has a lot of Autistic characteristics such as hand biting and wiggling his hands back and forth. He also lays on the floor at times and hums. My son sees Dr Dorthy Grange at Springfield Illinois Children Hospital every few years and sees a behavioral therapist for behavioral issues every month. I get so afraid that i am not doing all I can to help him succeed in life. I constantly ask my self should i be doing more learning more to help him succeed. Alex will be six years old in September of 2011. The picture is of him on his bike around 3 to 4 years of age.
