We are excited to share we have three fantastic new Board Members joining the National Fragile X Foundation this year. Join me in welcoming Jill Dolan, Michele Kaplan, and Kerry Stedke to the NFXF Board of Directors. Each brings a unique professional and personal point of view, lending to the Board’s expertise. I am thrilled to have them formally join us.
Learn more about Jill, Michele, and Kerry below.
Jill Dolan
Jill and her husband, Bill, are the proud parents of two daughters. Carly (full mutation) is a self-advocate board advisor and is a peer mentor through the Arc of VA. Sophie is in college and is actively involved in her university’s Best Buddies chapter. Jill has degrees in Early Childhood Development and Education, English/Journalism, and a master’s degree in Applied Behavioral Science. She has worked as directors of corporate-based childcare centers, the early childhood program director at the Children’s Museum of Richmond, and has facilitated numerous teacher and parent workshops. She said she is proud to be a board member and is eager to do whatever she can to support the Fragile X community in creative and helpful ways.
Michele Kaplan
Michele Kaplan received a B.A. in Elementary Education, with a minor in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) from Florida International University. She was a teacher for Miami-Dade Public County Public Schools for 6 years. After her son was born with Fragile X Syndrome, she co-founded Families for Fragile X in 2008, a non-profit that created a safe support system, awareness in the community and raised funds to further scientific research. In 2018, Michele co-founded Steps for Success, a home-school-away-from-home program dedicated to teaching independent living skills to young adults with developmental disabilities, including Fragile X. Michele also serves on the board for Friendship Circle Miami, a foundation bringing friendship to individuals that have special needs.
Michele is married to Paul Kaplan. Together, they are paving the way for Matthew (who was diagnosed at 14 months) and all those affected by Fragile X Syndrome. Most importantly, Michele is a mom to three children: Rachel, Matthew, and Alyson.
Kerry Stedke
Kerry and her husband, Adam, are the loving parents of three amazing children, including a son with Fragile X Syndrome.
Kerry is a practicing OB/GYN physician assistant and director of a ballet program, balancing her medical expertise with her love for the arts. Her commitment to both her family and her professional roles reflects her deep dedication to making a difference in the lives of others.
