What is Fragile X Advocacy Day?

The pillar of our Advocacy work is Advocacy Day. Every spring, for over 20 years, we gather in Washington, D.C., in a concerted, joint effort to raise awareness of Fragile X in Congress and to ask for research funding and policies that provide the opportunity for a better life for those living with Fragile X. Voices from home are the loudest! They know you are a voter. Showing up, telling your story, educating them, and showing them practical ways, they can help is what makes a difference!

What is Advocacy Day 2024 Going to Look Like?

We are planning our 20th NFXF Advocacy Day for February 26- February 27, 2024. Our long-time partner for scheduling and logistics, Soapbox Consulting, will be assisting us again this year. Nearly 100% of Congressional offices are accepting in-person meetings. Congressional offices are not offering a hybrid option with some Advocates in-person and some virtual in the same meeting.

Registration

Registration is required for all advocates who are attending.

• Advocates up to age 10 – Free

Hotel

The special room rate at the Hilton Arlington Towers is available until January 26, 2024 or until the room block the NFXF has acquired is sold out, whichever comes first. Rate: $179 + fees/taxes.

Training

Training will include a combination of mandatory online self-paced training ahead of time and group training/preparation at the Hilton Arlington Towers Hotel on the afternoon of Monday, February 26. We will also be hosting a virtual Zoom meeting earlier in the month of February for new or returning advocates.

Scholarships

Scholarships are available for individuals, families, self-advocates, or siblings who have not previously attended a NFXF Advocacy Day in Washington, D.C. or advocates who might not otherwise be able to attend due to limited financial resources.
