Meet David and Jason Fishman
David (45) and Jason (42) were both born in Boulder, Colorado, and appeared to be typically developing babies. As they got older, their development was noticeably delayed and they were diagnosed with Fragile X in 1987 at ages 11 and 8, respectively.
They both live with their parents in Clayton, Missouri, and started baking D&J Doggie Delights in 2021 to raise money for organizations whose primary missions are to serve the needs of individuals affected by the Fragile X family of disorders. So far, their sales have gone to the National Fragile X Foundation, FRAXA, and to the Fragile X Resource Center of Missouri.
The recipe for D&J Doggie Delights has been taken from proven dog biscuit recipes and all the ingredients are organic. The biscuits are sold in 5-oz. bags for $5 each.
When not baking the “Delights,” both are active in numerous activities in the St. Louis area:
- Special Olympics (bowling and tennis)
- Theatre Unlimited (a group of intellectually challenged adults that put on musical productions)
- Natural Ties at Washington University in St Louis (dining with the students during the school year)
David has recently started working at Straub’s Grocers in Webster Groves, Missouri, as a stocker and he paints at the Artists First Studios , where he exhibits and has sold several paintings. Jason works during the week at the University City Children’s Center as a dishwasher as well as at Target some Saturdays as a cart attendant.
