Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) Diane Simon Smith discusses the amount of stress that is often placed on a marriage when a couple has a child (or children) with Fragile X syndrome.

Letʼs Talk Married with (Fragile X) Children

Many parents may worry that even the strongest marriages may buckle — or worse — under the intense demand of raising a child with special needs.

We address communication breakdown, differing expectations of each other and our children, and differing coping and parenting styles. From there, we discuss specific strategies for enhancing a sense of unity and connectedness between partners.

Diane Smith has also written a blog post on this topic, Married With (Fragile X) Children.
