Robin Blackwood is a South Carolina native and first learned of Fragile X Syndrome when her son was diagnosed with full mutation Fragile X Syndrome in 2011 when he was 23 months old. She is an active special needs advocate sharing her experiences and knowledge of caring for a son with disabilities locally, regionally and nationally to help improve services, supports and inclusive opportunities. Robin is a former Commissioner for SC Department of Disabilities and Special Needs, a past board member of Disability Rights of SC and serves on various school committees. She has also participated in dozens of research studies at Fragile X clinics across the country for the last 10 years. Robin holds a B.A. in Journalism and Mass Communications from the University of South Carolina and is the owner of Blackwood PR, a public relations and marketing consulting firm.
