Harris enlisted during the Korean War and served as an Army combat officer earning a Bronze Star. He owned Lemmon Pharmaceuticals, now part of TEVA Pharmaceuticals. He is a Fragile X grandfather and founded the Conquer Fragile X Research Foundation, now part of NFXF, which supported Fragile X research in many countries across Europe and Asia.
