What makes Madison Xtraordinary to you?
Ms. Davis is my son’s 2nd grade general education teacher. From the first few days of this school year, I had a special feeling about Ms. Davis. She sent home a “brag card” and listed all of the things she was proud of my son for doing. We know, as parents of kiddos with high support needs, these types of notes from school are truly special. We’re used to navigating IEP language, fighting to be heard, advocating for our children, and having difficult conversations — but we’re not always used to positive notes home.
Fast forward to the end of the school year, and these notes and positive reports home haven’t stopped. Ms. Davis goes above and beyond to modify class work, incorporates social/emotional and adaptive goals into the general ed setting, whether or not it’s an official goal, encourages empathy and patience from his neurotypical peers, promotes an inclusive learning environment as the norm, assists in encouraging and supporting friendships for my son, and shows up every day with a warmth and kindness that radiates.
She, along with his EC team and the school administration, has created a safe and inclusive environment that has drastically boosted his confidence this year. I am so grateful to her for creating such a safe, neuro-affirming, and inclusive environment, as well as her genuine interest in understanding FXS and her love for children with diverse backgrounds and abilities. Thank you, Ms. Davis. We hope you will be recognized and celebrated!
Her patience, kindness, sense of humor, and genuine interest in learning about FX all contributed to his growth this year.
Ms. Davis, amazing Mrs. Hunt, his wonderful EC team, and the supportive administrators have all worked together to promote a safe learning environment for his unique needs, and they all deserve recognition.
