Transcript
Everybody has an FMR1 gene.
The Fragile X premutation occurs on this gene.
Fragile X is typically hereditary, which means it’s passed from parents to their children.
And when it’s passed, it can stay a premutation, or expand to a full mutation.
Having a Fragile X premutation can cause health risks for some individuals.
One of the associated conditions is FXTAS, a neurodegenerative condition with symptoms like tremors, balance problems, and dementia.
Another associated condition is FXPOI, which can affect ovarian health and cause infertility, early menopause, and other issues.
While there is no cure for these conditions, their symptoms can be treated.
Anxiety, depression, and autoimmune conditions might also be related to the premutation, and it’s stilll being researched.
If you have neurological or ovarian issues, consider asking for the Fragile X DNA test.
