The National Fragile X Foundation (NFXF) is a forward looking organization – a necessity in today’s fast-changing Fragile X world. That necessity explains why we played a key role in co-founding both the Fragile X Clinical & Research Consortium and the Collaboration to Promote Self-Determination. Looking ahead and being prepared is just plain, common sense – for all of us.
But occasionally, it’s helpful to look behind you and remember where you’ve come from, be it improvements in your child’s behavior or an organization’s accomplishments. Those of you who are parents are always on the lookout for the next challenge: change in school, living arrangements, a trip, etc. But I hope you periodically look back and acknowledge yourselves for your hard work and for your child’s hard work.
I’m sure it wasn’t always easy, proceeded in fits and starts and sometimes felt as if you were moving in reverse. But when you take a step back, and get a bigger perspective, you will see that you are, indeed, moving forward.
Each year at the NFXF we compile a record of what took place the prior year and post it on our website as an Annual Report. Knowing where we’ve been always helps us plan for where we want to go. Our 2010 Annual Report can be found on the About the Foundation page at FragileX.org. Now we will return to preparing for the growth of the consortium, the 13th International Fragile X Conference, legislative challenges and opportunities, improving our websites and the many other things you’ve told us you’d like to see. Thank you for the many ways you help us move forward.
