About Our Group

The group was originally founded as the Fragile X Association of New Jersey. In the late 1990s, Pattie Devlin, a parent of a son with FXS, led the group and organized picnics, and other family friendly events. Jennifer Stone, a geneticist with Cooper Hospital in Southern NJ was our professional contact. Depending on where people lived, they were referred to FX Clinics at Elwyn (Philadelphia) or the Institute for Basic Research (Staten Island, NY).The group was originally founded as the Fragile X Association of New Jersey. In 2004, Pattie felt it was time to take a lesser role and step down as leader. Paula Fasciano, a mom of 2 sons with FXS took over at that time, when the NFXF was trying to get the LINKS program off the ground. In conjunction with the NYC LINKS Group, the FXNJ organized regional education conferences in 2007, 2009, 2011, 2013 and an innovative Webinar series in 2014.

In 2013, Cara Capela, mom of a then 8-year-old son with FXS joined Paula as Co-Leader of the New Jersey Fragile X Community Support Group.

Cara and Paula hope to grow the group to have more families involved, so that in addition to education seminars and “Moms Nights Out” we can have more family events that will promote awareness, like the past “Let ‘Em Know” Fundraisers.
