St. Louis Holds Its Annual Walk and Shaves Our CEO’s Head!

Fragile Not Broken 2017-7

June 2-3, 2017 – Members of the Fragile X Resource Center of Missouri gathered at the Celebrating Life Cake Boutique on Friday, June 2, to welcome NFXF CEO Tony Ferlenda to town. We enjoyed Imo’s St. Louis-style pizza, St. Louis’ favorite toasted ravioli and each had the opportunity to create our very own custom cupcake for dessert. The 30 people in attendance had the opportunity to chat with Tony and each other as we were geared up for our big Walk fundraiser the next day.

Then, on Saturday, the FXRCMO held its 11th Annual Fragile, Not Broken Walk for Knowledge at Tilles Park in St. Louis. This year’s event had a superhero theme that was carried through all the activities; including a photo booth, face painting, making a superhero mask, superhero bowling, a laser maze, leaping over tall buildings game and more! The family-friendly event also included pony rides, a bounce house, a balloon artist, as well as a resource area featuring local businesses and agencies that support individuals with disabilities.

Attendees participated in a one-mile walk around the park and enjoyed a hot dog lunch and snow cones upon returning to the pavilion. The event also included a very exciting raffle and silent auction that helped raise funds to support the mission. At the end, Tony Ferlenda made good on his offer to have his head shaved by our own Diane Southard, proving he would do anything for Fragile X!

Special Thanks to the planning committee: Sara Hamilton, Shanon Hamilton, Diane Southard, Kim Eyermann, Maryanne Schnettgoecke, Beth Shackleford, Sue Fishman and Yvonne Gluck. Thank you to Tony Ferlenda for being such a good sport! The FXRCMO would also like to thank our generous sponsors and donors that made our event such a great success.
