It had been a while since Fragile X Southeast Pennsylvania held an educational conference and this one did not disappoint! Approximately fifty people gathered to hear Medical, Educational and Behavioral Interventions for Fragile X. We went back to basics with Brenda Finucane, MS, LGC who provided us with a refresher of the genetics and underlying characteristics of Fragile X, FXTAS, FXPOI and Premutation carriers. Dr. Elizabeth Berry-Kravis stressed how medications are used in conjunction with behavioral interventions. She reviewed the different types of medications and gave us an overview of some clinical trials are now available. Dr. Karen Riley followed a delicious Panera lunch and talked about the educational profile of those with Fragile X and components of IEPs. She also discussed how we should focus on the antecedents of behavior in school and all environments. Barbara Haas-Givler, BCBA ended the day talking about behavior. Positive behavior supports are important to our children.

We all went home to make sure our houses were organized and kids rooms were tidy!

Thanks as always to the support of Elwyn, Inc’s Fragile X clinic for support over the years!
